The pendants were the problem, and the answer.
A long room with one window at the far end. Three low pendants pull the light into the middle, and the seating turned to face across rather than along.

One table that does both, a chandelier that reads as a drawing, and the panelling painted the same white as the walls so it stops shouting.

A bay window, finally used.
The bay had been a place for a plant. A low sectional fills it now, and the terracotta stops the white from going cold in the afternoon.

Dark walls, and a better night.
The owners wanted a room that closed down at night. Near-black walls, one warm brass light, and every other surface pale so it is not gloomy by day.
