The Gift Cards screen, showing part-spent balances against their original values

A gift card is the rare thing that is good for both sides: the customer buys a present without guessing a size, and you take the money months before you do the work. The version most small sites end up with is a discount code emailed as a PDF, which is single-use and untraceable. This is a real balance: it can be spent in part, over several visits, and every movement against it is recorded.

Building your site, pages and blog are free forever. Sell gift cards on your own website is not - it needs Growth Business ($39.99/mo). Gift cards are on Growth Business and up, alongside the shop they are spent in.

A balance, not a one-shot code

A 100 card spent on a 60 treatment leaves 40 on the card. Most small-business gift vouchers cannot do this and customers notice.

Every movement on the record

Each purchase and redemption is a line with the amount, the balance after and the order it belonged to - so a disputed card has an answer.

Sent to the recipient

Issue it to the person being given it, with a note from the buyer, rather than making the buyer forward something.

Expiry, if you want it

Set an expiry date or leave it open. Whether you may expire one at all depends on where you trade, so the choice is yours rather than ours.

Switch one off

A card can be deactivated - for a refund, a mistake, or one that went to the wrong address - without disturbing the rest.

Spent in your own shop

Redeemed against orders on the site you already run, so the money comes back to the same place rather than to a voucher platform.

How it works

Live in an afternoon - no code, no plugins.

1

Pick your amounts

Set the values you want to sell, or let the buyer choose what to put on it.

2

Sell it like anything else

It sits in your shop and is paid for the same way. The recipient gets the card.

3

Take it at checkout

The balance comes off the order and whatever is left stays on the card for next time.

Frequently asked questions

Growth Business and up, alongside the shop they are spent in. On Starter you can sell products and take bookings, but not issue cards.

Yes - that is the main reason to use this rather than a discount code. The card holds a balance, and spending part of it leaves the rest for another visit.

Only if you set an expiry. Be careful here: rules on expiring prepaid vouchers differ by country and some places prohibit it or set a minimum period. We give you the switch, not the legal advice.

The card is a code with a balance attached, so you can look up the balance and deactivate the old one. Every transaction against it is recorded, which is what makes that safe to do.

The purchase is an ordinary sale through your own payment processor, so yes. The liability to honour it later is real, though - it is worth remembering that an unspent card is work you still owe.
