How it works

Four screens, in the order you would meet them.

Step 1

Find your codes under the shop

Every code, what it does, how many times it has been used and how many are left. Expired and paused ones stay on the list rather than disappearing.

Step 2

Set the offer, then set the ceiling

The discount is the easy half. The fields underneath - biggest discount allowed, minimum order, uses in total, uses per customer, a date window - are the half that decides whether the promotion makes money.

Most discount tools make the easy part easy. Ten percent off, done. The part that costs people money is everything after: the code that was meant for one newsletter and ended up on a deals forum, the free shipping that went to the other end of the country, the fixed five pounds off a four pound order. Every limit below exists because somebody got caught by it.

Building your site, pages and blog are free forever. Discount codes for your shop is not - it needs Starter ($14.99/mo). The 14-day free trial covers it, and starting the trial needs a card. Discount codes come with the shop, from Starter. There is no separate charge and no per-redemption fee.

Before you start the trial

  • Nothing is charged today. Cancel any time before day 15 and you are not charged at all - the account moves to the Free plan and your site and its data stay.
  • Taking payment runs through your own Stripe account. Connecting it is a separate identity check with Stripe that can take a few days, so start it on day one if you want to take a real payment inside the trial.
  • The trial runs on Starter only. Moving up a plan part-way through ends the trial and starts the paid subscription, so if you already know you need the bigger tier, start there instead.
  • One trial per account.

What it replaces

  • A discount app with its own monthly fee
  • Codes tracked in a notebook
  • A 20% code that somebody posted on a deals forum
  • Free shipping that cost more than the order
  • Working out afterwards whether the promotion made money

Four kinds of offer

Percentage off, a flat amount, free shipping, or buy one get one. Most shops use two of them and ignore the rest.

A floor under it

Set a minimum order value. Five off a four-pound order is the classic one.

A ceiling over it

Cap what any single order can take off. This is the limit that matters on a percentage code: 20% off a normal basket is a promotion, 20% off the trade customer who orders once a year at four figures is a mistake you only make once.

Limits per person and in total

One use each, or two hundred in total, or both. A code that escapes onto a deals site stops being your problem at the number you set.

Only on the things you meant

Restrict a code to named products, so clearing last season's stock does not discount the new arrivals.

It expires on its own

Give it a start and an end date. Nobody has to remember Tuesday.

How it works

Live in an afternoon - no code, no plugins.

1

Pick the offer

Percentage, amount, shipping, or buy one get one.

2

Set the limits

Minimum order, maximum discount, how many, how long.

3

Share the code

It works at checkout and counts itself.

Frequently asked questions

No. Codes come with the shop from Starter, with no per-redemption fee. The only cost is the discount itself, which is rather the point.

Three things, and it is worth using more than one: a total usage cap, a per-customer limit, and an end date. A code with none of those is a code you are trusting the internet with.

Yes. Set free shipping as the type with a start and end date, and usually a minimum order value too so it does not go out on a single low-value item.

Yes, restrict the code to named products. It is how you clear old stock without discounting what just arrived.

Each code counts its own uses, and the orders it applied to sit in your normal order list with the discount recorded. What it cost you is therefore a number rather than a feeling.
