Start a blog

A blog is how a small site earns search traffic. Every post is another page that can answer a question someone typed into Google.

Turn it on

Settings > Blog, then Enable Blog. The Blog group appears in the sidebar.

Put it on your site

Your posts need somewhere to be listed. Add the blog section to a page in the builder, publish that page, and link it from your menu - see Pages & menus.

A blog nobody can navigate to from your homepage is a blog only Google will ever read.

What to write about

The posts that work are answers to questions your customers actually ask you:

  • The thing you explain on the phone every week.
  • "How much does X cost and what changes the price."
  • "How to choose between X and Y."
  • What you did for a customer, and what it achieved.

Each of those is a real search someone performs. Company news, by contrast, is read by people who already know you - which is nobody who needs finding.

How often

Consistency beats volume. One genuinely useful post a month, indefinitely, outperforms eight in January and silence afterwards - both for readers and for search engines.

Good to know

  • Results take months, not days. A post typically needs weeks before it ranks for anything. This is a compounding channel; the posts you write now are working for you in a year.
  • One post, one question. A post that covers four topics ranks for none of them.
