Accept payments with Stripe
Currency, tax and how buyers pay you all live in one place: Settings > Payments.
Currency
Base currency is what your prices are stored and charged in. Set it before you start selling - changing it later does not convert existing prices, it just relabels them.
Show prices in multiple currencies lets shoppers see prices converted for display. They are still charged in your base currency.
Tax
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Tax rate | Your rate - VAT, sales tax or GST, whichever applies where you are - applied by each product's tax class. |
| Prices include tax | On, the price you typed already contains tax. Off, tax is added at checkout. Get this wrong and every price is out by the tax rate. |
| Also tax shipping | Whether shipping is taxed as well. |
How buyers pay
| Method | What it is |
|---|---|
| Card (online) | Card payments through Stripe. Press Connect Stripe and complete their onboarding - money goes to your own Stripe account, not to us. |
| Cash on delivery / pickup | The buyer pays you in person. The order is placed unpaid and you mark it paid. |
| Bank transfer | The buyer transfers manually. Fill in Bank transfer instructions - they are shown on the order confirmation. |
| Check / pay on invoice | For business buyers who pay later. |
You can enable more than one. Card is the only one that takes money at checkout; the rest create an order you settle yourself.
Connecting Stripe
Connect Stripe sends you to Stripe to sign in or create an account. You come back connected. Until Stripe reports the account as able to accept charges, card checkout will not complete - if you skipped part of their form, finish it in the Stripe dashboard.
Disconnect unlinks the account. Existing orders keep their records; you simply stop being able to take new card payments.
A per-sale fee may apply
Some plans charge a small platform fee per sale, separate from Stripe's own fees. The rate for each plan is in What each plan includes.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a Stripe account to sell?
For card payments, yes, and the money goes to your own Stripe account rather than to us. Without it you can still take cash on delivery, bank transfer or invoice, which create an order you settle yourself.
Why is card checkout not completing?
Stripe has not yet reported the account as able to accept charges, which usually means part of their onboarding form is unfinished. Complete it in the Stripe dashboard and the option starts working.
Can I change my currency later?
You can, but it does not convert existing prices, it relabels them. Set it before you start selling.
Do these payment methods apply to bookings and hires as well?
Yes. The enabled list is one project-wide setting shared by the shop, bookings and rentals, so a customer sees the same options wherever they pay you.
What does "prices include tax" change?
Whether the price you typed already contains tax or has it added at checkout. Getting it the wrong way round puts every price out by your tax rate.
