Shop settings
Everything about how your shop charges and ships lives on one screen: Shop > Settings. Other pages send you here a lot, so this is what is actually on it.
Currency and tax
Set the currency your prices are shown and charged in, and your tax rate if you charge one. Prices are entered in this currency, so changing it later does not convert what you have already typed - it just relabels it. Decide early.
Shipping
Four things stack here, and they interact:
- Flat shipping rate - one price for every order. The simplest thing that works.
- Shipping zones and shipping rates - different prices for different places, when one flat rate is either losing you money or scaring people off.
- Charge by parcel weight - rates by weight rather than a flat figure, for anything heavy or bulky.
- Free shipping over an amount - the usual nudge to raise order value.
There is a checkbox next to the free-shipping threshold worth understanding: Measure the threshold after discounts. With it on, a customer who uses a discount code has to reach the threshold on what they actually pay. With it off, the code can carry them over the line. Off is more generous; on protects your margin.
Offer local pickup adds a no-delivery option at checkout, which is the right answer for a lot of food, florist and workshop businesses.
Checkout
- Let customers create accounts - lets buyers keep an address book and an order history. It is also required for wishlists, because a saved item needs somewhere to live.
- Shop email - the address order notifications go to. Make it one somebody reads.
- Terms & conditions URL - linked at checkout. In much of Europe you need this before you take money.
Returns
