Take orders online
Once your menu exists, you can take orders through it - for collection, delivery, or both.
Turn it on
Settings > Restaurant menu, then Accept online orders. Then choose how you fulfil:
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Offer pickup / collection | Customers collect from you. |
| Offer your own delivery | You deliver. Requires delivery areas, below. |
| Prep time (minutes) | How long you need. Shown to the customer as a realistic wait. |
| Opening hours | When ordering is available. |
Delivery areas
Add area for each place you deliver to, each with its own:
- Delivery fee
- Minimum order
Areas are the thing to get right before you go live. Set the minimum from what makes a trip worth driving, not from what sounds friendly - a delivery that loses money loses money every single time.
Getting paid
Card payments and cash on collection are configured in Settings > Payments, the same as any other selling on your site - see Accept payments.
Put it on your site
Add the menu section to a page in the builder and publish it. Link it from your menu, prominently. Ordering that takes three clicks to find does not get used.
Before you go live
- Place a test order yourself, end to end.
- Check the prep time is one you can actually hit on a Friday night.
- Confirm someone will see the order arrive - see Managing orders.
- Check the whole thing on a phone. Nearly every food order is placed on one.
Good to know
- Set opening hours honestly. An order accepted at closing time is a complaint tomorrow.
- Prep time is a promise. Under-promise it; nobody complains about early food.
